In many cases a flow inducer sleeve will need to be utilized in association with the electric submersible pump. Flow inducer sleeves ensure proper cooling of the submersible motor. The downhole pump assembly is installed into the flow inducer sleeve then the flow inducer sleeve is usually installed below the perforations to eliminate "gas locking" of the downhole pump. In cases where the flow inducer sleeve cannot be set below the perforations, a gas separating flow inducer sleeve is used to mechanically separate the natural gas and route it up the annulus keeping the gas out of the pump.
