Solar Powered Water Pumps
Pumps of Oklahoma, Incorporated has been a distributor for the Grundfos Pumps Corporation since 1981. Grundfos manufactures high end stainless steel submersible well pumps, pressure boosting pumps and industrial transfer pumps. The new line of 3" submersible "smart" pumps are able to be programmed to follow a 4-20 milliamp signal to maintain constant flow or constant pressure. The latest line of pumps in the Grundfos technology driven series are the solar powered water well pumps. The Grundfos solar powered water well pumps utilize photovoltaic solar cells to power the solar powered water well pump system. These solar cells can deliver 1.1 kilowatts of power to the solar powered pumping system. The pump utilizes a helical rotor design to optimize efficiency and minimize the total number of solar cells required. In addition to the pump running directly utilizing DC current from the solar cells, the pump can also run from Alternating Current (AC) from a permanent AC supply or a portable AC power supply such as a generator. This flexible power supply is the genesis for the name Grundfos SQ Flex solar powered pumping system.
Where rural electric power is not readily available, the Grundfos SQ Flex solar powered pumping system is ideal. At just a fraction of the cost of running a power line in from a primary electric source, the SQ Flex solar powered pumping system can be installed in very remote locations in just a few hours. The photovoltaic solar cells are resilient to wind and hail and carry a standard 20 year warranty. Many farmers and ranchers have realized significant cost savings by installing the Grundfos SQ Flex solar powered pump systems. By only having to drill a water well, and not having to install a costly electric service to the well site, the solar powered water well pumps actually pay for themselves by generating their own power.
The Grundfos SQ Flex solar powered water pump systems have also been installed in very remote third world countries for the primary water supply for villages that have no access to electricity. In such remote locations such as Southern China, Tibet, Sierra Leone, and throughout West Africa these solar pumping systems have proven to be portable, easy to set up and very reliable with minimal maintenance. Typically in these remote poor areas of the world the residents must use a bucket and rope system to retrieve their daily water needs. With the Grundfos Solar pump systems installed in these water wells, the wells can then be sealed at the surface and the pump can deliver water to a storage tank almost eliminating water borne pathogens and increasing the quality of life for the village while utilizing renewable energy as the primary power supply.
